Race Recap - La Tour Genève Triathlon🥇

Before the big season highlight in Thun, another competition was scheduled yesterday: the La Tour Genève middle-distance triathlon. The goal was to test training under competition conditions and, above all, to test nutrition at race pace.

The morning began unexpectedly hectically: Due to the warm water temperatures, I hadn't expected the wetsuit to be allowed, so I left it in my hotel room that morning. When it was announced shortly before the start that the wetsuit was permitted after all, I had no choice but to pedal back to the hotel. You do, after all, cover the swim course much faster in a wetsuit. After that brief moment of stress, though, I was at the start on time.

🏊 During the swim, I was able to immediately join the front group. Initially, I was part of a small chasing group at the heels of the leader. When the pace dropped a bit, I fell into second position and eventually took the lead. I was the first out of the water, about a minute ahead.

🚴♂️ On the bike, I deliberately chose an offensive strategy to keep the pursuers at bay. The tactic worked: I was able to defend my lead throughout the entire 90 kilometers and enter the second transition zone with a consistent lead.

🏃 I also set a brisk pace during the run to see if the runner-up would close the gap or if I could extend my lead further. After the first half of the half marathon, I was a good two minutes ahead. Victory was becoming increasingly within reach, and after 3 hours 58 minutes, I was able to lift the finish line.

Even though the race was primarily intended as a training event, the win means a lot to me. It shows me that I'm on the right track and gives me additional confidence in my nutrition, training, and progress over the past few weeks.
